Chakvi: travel guide

Chakvi is a small coastal settlement in Adjara, on the Black Sea coast north of Batumi.

About Chakvi

Chakvi is a small coastal settlement in Adjara, on the Black Sea coast north of Batumi. It sits between Batumi and Kobuleti, with a pebble beach in front and tea-covered hills behind it.

It is one of the birthplaces of the Georgian tea industry. Tea was planted on the Chakvi hills in the late 19th century, with the help of a Chinese tea master, Lau Jen Jau.

The village is quiet outside the summer beach season. People come for the long pebble beach facing the Black Sea, the old tea terraces above the village, and the sights in the surrounding area.
